The UAE Floating Hospital in Al Arish, Egypt, has fitted prosthetic limbs for 64 Palestinian amputees through the “Step of Hope” programme, marking another significant milestone in the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian and medical support for Palestinians.
Implemented under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, the programme provides an integrated rehabilitation pathway designed to help beneficiaries adapt to prosthetic limbs, regain mobility and return to their daily activities. The care includes medical assessments, customised prosthetic manufacturing and fitting, physiotherapy, mobility rehabilitation and continued medical follow-up.
The programme uses specialised technology to ensure prosthetic devices are tailored to individual needs. Earlier phases have also incorporated 3D digital scanning, allowing medical teams to accurately map patients’ residual limbs and use the information to produce appropriately fitted prosthetics.
Beyond providing immediate medical assistance, “Step of Hope” is designed with longer-term rehabilitation and sustainability in mind. Plans include supporting prosthetics workshops and developing specialised manufacturing capabilities, which could help expand access to rehabilitation services and strengthen local expertise.
The initiative is supported by several UAE humanitarian organisations, including the International Charity Organisation, Sharjah Charity International, The Big Heart Foundation, Dar Al Ber Society, Zayed Authority for People of Determination and the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an.
With specialised medical teams continuing personalised treatment and rehabilitation, the programme represents a practical effort to restore independence, improve quality of life and give beneficiaries greater confidence in rebuilding their daily lives.
