New Adam Scott horror film, Hokum, looked to Abu Dhabi’s Remah Desert for key scenes

Acclaimed horror film , starring Adam Scott, used Abu Dhabi’s Remah Desert in Al Ain for key opening and closing scenes, highlighting the emirate’s growing appeal as a global filming destination. Directed by Damien McCarthy, the film was co-produced by and filmed over two days in April 2025 with support from the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and Creative Media Authority Abu Dhabi. The production also provided hands-on experience for four Emirati interns through Creative Lab, with trainees working across camera, production, art and wardrobe departments. Producers praised the UAE’s desert landscapes, strong infrastructure and 35 per cent rebate programme for attracting major international productions. The film has premiered globally and is now screening across the region.
