The United Arab Emirates has launched a new National Programme for Advanced Sciences and Technologies, strengthening its long-term strategy to build a highly skilled, innovation-driven and globally competitive economy.
Established by a decision from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on August 30, the programme creates an integrated national pathway connecting education, scientific research, development and talent-building with the needs of the country’s strategic and advanced industries.
The initiative aims to develop a strong pipeline of Emirati specialists in advanced sciences and technologies, preparing national talent for future industries and helping strengthen the UAE’s industrial capabilities. It also seeks to improve the competitiveness of Emirati products in strategic sectors while supporting the country’s technological and economic resilience.
A Higher Committee, chaired by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will provide strategic direction and oversee the programme. An Executive Committee and dedicated programme office will support implementation, coordinate initiatives and develop local and international partnerships.
The programme’s first phase includes six tracks covering technical education and national talent, national service, flagship initiatives, global challenges, global talent attraction, and technical research and innovation. These tracks are designed to bring universities, research institutions, innovation centres and industry closer together.
The UAE says the programme will help turn research and knowledge into practical technologies that can be manufactured, scaled and exported, creating a stronger connection between scientific advancement and economic development.
The scale of the initiative reflects the UAE’s ambition to prepare early for the industries of the future. While building advanced industrial capabilities requires sustained investment, specialised skills and strong research partnerships, the new programme provides a structured national framework to address those challenges.
