The European Union has issued its first sanctions targeting those impeding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

They include the Hormozgan provincial command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy and Mohammad Azbarzadeh, IRGC navy spokesman.

Also sanctioned by Brussels is Hamid Hossini, a representative of Iran’s oil, gas and petrochemical products exporters’ union. He stands accused of promoting the policy of paying transit fees to Iranian authorities for safe passage through the strait. Those listed are subject to an EU-wide travel ban and frozen assets.
